Zainab: “I have the Best Teachers. They Help Me a Lot.”

Having a good teacher is a critical part of language education. A good teacher helps you understand the materials better, improve faster, and feel encouraged and motivated throughout your learning process. At LCNV, we feel blessed whenever we hear our students say, “we have the best teachers!”. We are extremely thankful to our teachers who during these unconventional times,  keep performing their vital roles in supporting our students by providing the distance learning classes, resources, and instructions our students need. Zainab writes about his gratitude towards his teacher:

“Learning English helped me to learn the English alphabet and to write my name. My teachers helped me learn the English alphabet and to write my name in English. My teachers are teaching me so well…. I have the best teachers. They help me a lot. When I am getting confused by something, my teachers teach me. I am really happy.”

LCNV is supporting our community during the difficult times by providing online distance learning programs and one on one virtual conversation practices. If you believe in our cause and would like to help our community through these times, please consider volunteeringwith us or make a donation.

Happy National Volunteer Week! Volunteers are absolutely critical to fulfilling our mission and we are fortunate to be connected to so many amazing, dedicated individuals. They support our learners as teachers, class aides, and administrative roles in our office; and we are truly thankful for the difference they made in our learners’ lives! In Marlon’s essay, he expressed how our volunteers helped him make a difference:

“Since taking English class, I have more confidence in myself. I have been able to communicate with people in my work, in classes and anywhere. I feel lucky to be a part of this project, where wonderful people help you improve, guiding you step by step. I am not the same person since I came to this place.”

“English helps me to travel throughout the world.”

LCNV’s Distance Learning programs are up and running with tremendous success, and we will extend our current semester from April 23 to June 30 at no additional cost. We are working tirelessly to provide English literacy instruction during this unconventional time. We understand the difficulties and eagerness of our learners, and we want to support them in realizing their hopes and dreams. In Qui’s article, he states how important learning English to him in his everyday life:

“English helps me speak with other people. It helps me buy groceries in the store and I can use my card to pay and to prepare for my citizenship test. I need English for my business to talk with customers and to pay my suppliers for food. I need English to speak with my neighbors. English helps me to travel throughout the world. I can communicate better so people can understand me.

Thank you, Teachers, who teach me to learn English.”

What changes can English bring to your life? Last year, over 81% of LCNV learners have achieved two or more goals. Among all the students, 881 students entered or retained employment, and 1,072 improved their employability skills. Tao is one of them. He wrote about his experience:

“I got a job [at] Walmart. I am very happy day after day. I felt deficient in English. I had difficult conversations with customers, therefore, I am trying to improve my English level. I take English classes and in my free time I listen to BBC Learning English programs and read new word of the day.

Now, my English is slowly getting better. I can share my opinions with customers and give them better service. Maybe I will get a promotion soon at work.”
